The following is a brief description to help you understand a few techniques available during your massage session.

Massage Cupping:  Cupping is an ancient therapy that is still popular today.  When applied to the skin, suction is created which draws an increase in blood and qi (vital energy) to an area of injury or imbalance.  Cupping draws toxins and disease out of the body and helps maintain good health. Cupping may not always be performed on the first visit. A detailed review of your health history and cupping protocols are required and a determination will be made at that time. Cupping employs negative pressure, rather than tissue compression. There are various applications and techniques as well. There are numerous benefits to learn about.

Swedish Massage:  Swedish Massage is a systematic and scientific manipulation of the the soft tissues of the body for the purpose of establishing or maintaining good health.  There are five basic massage strokes that are categorized into groups according to their application.  The groups are Effleurage (gliding), Petrissage (kneading), Friction, Tapotement (percussion) and Vibration (shaking/rocking).

Deep Tissue:  Usually the therapist uses his or her own hands, elbows, or forearms when applying pressure; however, hand-held tools can be used.  Achieved through the application of pressure, depth is the distance traveled into the body's tissue. There are some very mild techniques that can be employed that affect the deep tissue to release without increasing the client's sensitivity.

Myofascial Release:  Techniques employed to reduce fascial restrictions.  Fascia is a tough connective tissue that spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to foot functionally without interruption.

Reiki: (pronounced ray-key):  Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing.  Reiki is administered by "laying on hands" and has its own intelligence and knows exactly where to go and what to do.  Reiki clears, straightens and heals the energy pathways, thus allowing healthy Ki (Qi or Chi) to flow in a natural way.

Tuning Forks:  Lightweight sound healing tools.  The use of vibrational sound frequencies facilitates the body's healing abilities by clearing blockages to our Qi or natural energy flow.  Removing disharmony and tension or Qi stagnation helps to restore a sense of balance and well being.  For example, the use of the Moses Code Tuning Forks is a powerful tool for balancing the mind, body and spirit. Biofield Tuning® also facilitates deep relaxation, release of tension held in the body and it's subtle energy field.

Integrative Reflexology ®: "works primarily on the feet. It can tap into and open up the systems and organs to allow your body to transport important information about the source and nature of any neurological and metabolic imbalances within the body." Claire Marie Miller
This modality is deeply relaxing to the body system as a whole and may also provide relief from various discomforts. The feet, hands and ears are massaged with specific intent and directional flow to facilitate the body, mind and spirit to come into a healthier balance and well-being.
